Best Robotic Vacuum Cleaners – iRobot Vacuum Cleaners

Work is getting on top of you? No time to vacuum the floor? Now you don’t have to live with dust anymore but simply come back to a readily vacuumed floor every day with the help of a robotic vacuum cleaner!

My sister used to complain that her house never gets clean enough even though she only has one kid because she and her husband work six full days a week. She was always either putting up with the dusty floor or tired from cleaning after work. After I suggested she try one of these robots, nowadays I see nothing but smiles on her face and hear nothing but her raves about her iRobot vacuum cleaner. She raved so much about it that now I’ve gone and gotten one for myself!

Best Robotic Vacuum Cleaner – iRobot Roomba 770

What is so great about this robotic vacuum cleaner is that it comes with a set of two HEPA filters! Well, you know I have this thing for HEPA filters because my kid is asthmatic. Somehow the filters keep the air clean even though it is not vacuuming the air but the floor. When you program this robot to vacuum at a certain hour of the day, seven days a week, it automatically cleans the floor and the air as well. I also love HEPA filters because with less dust floating about in the air, I don’t have to dust the furniture that often.

The robotic vacuum cleaner charges in its base and roams the house vacuuming its path, and although you may find it goes around in a random manner, it does somehow learn to accommodate with your household space over time. I have no idea how it does that and don’t intend to find out, as long as it keeps the floor perceptibly clean! The Roomba goes back to its base or dock automatically when it gets low on power.

If you have a large house with many rooms, you may need to manually set the robot in each room and let it do its work, because it might run out of charge before it does the whole house. For my house it works well over 900 square feet.

Basically all you have to do is to empty the collection bin (I only do it once a week even though I have a long haired dog and the vacuum runs daily) and clean the brushes (brush cleaning accessories are provided) so that it keeps on working well. This whole process takes me less than five minutes each time!

One thing that might bother some people about having a robotic vacuum cleaner is the need to clear the floor of stray objects so that the robot can vacuum without obstruction. That means you’ll have to be tidier, but isn’t that a good thing? Admittedly I’ve had the Roomba tangled up with the tail of a toy monkey in the first few weeks, but after that it became a habit to pick up things when I see them on the floor.

I bought the iRobot Roomba 770 here for the best deal. For those who aren’t so keen about HEPA filters you can save $100 with the iRobot Roomba 650 model instead.

The design is similarly round and flat so it vacuums the areas you can’t reach like underneath the closets or the bed, as long as the height of the legs can allow the robot to go in. One user actually said that he bought new furniture with exactly the right height of legs so that his Roomba can vacuum under them!

You can also schedule this model to vacuum the house daily, and there is a virtual wall included so that you can barrier off a certain area you don’t want it to go, such as the dining area where chair legs might confuse the robot. So unless your dining chairs are stackable and can be stored aside, it’s better to keep the Roomba away from them.

I didn’t expect it but the Roomba actually cleans carpets well too, and moves from hard floors onto carpets (low to medium pile) without a glitch.
